2020 Impact
In spite of pandemic changes, shutdowns, and wildfires, in 2020 Village Harvest provided a total of 212,000 lbs. of healthy fruit to food banks for people in need, 112,000 lbs. from volunteer harvests and another 100,000 lbs. donated in collaboration with a grower and his family. It's a big number, and it means more than 50,000 people received much needed healthy food through our efforts together. And remarkably, nearly the amount harvested in 2019 before the pandemic.
For volunteer and community safety we focused on a reduced number orchard harvests where volunteers could stay well spaced, and substantially reduced the number of volunteers per event compared to pre-pandemic operatiions. We couldn't see each other's faces at harvests because of masks, but the laughter and good spirit was still very apparent!
