One Last Apple Harvest

Apple Orchard and Harvesters Late season apples to be harvested in the most beautiful organic apple orchard in Pescadero.  If you love tree ripened Newtown Pippins you'll enjoy tasting them fresh (yes, they really do ripen to a golden yellow.  The green ones in the stores are harvested "green".)

Sat Nov 14 11:30am – 3:00pm Organic Apple Orchard in Pescadero

See above for instructions on joining in.  This is a terrific event for friends that would like to have an outing to the coast.  Details on location will be provided to volunteers a few days before the date.

San Mateo Farmer's Market - help with Village Harvest Promotion

The San Mateo Farmer's Market has offered to do a Village Harvest promotion in the month of November, the season of thanks.  There will be encouragement to have the public bring in excess produce from their gardens, farmers to donate excess produce, and school children to bring donations collected in classrooms.  All will be passed on to an local agency serving those in need.

Here's a convenient opportunity for Peninsula residents to to volunteer; we need people to coordinate deliveries with the agencies and to staff the information tables during the hours of the Farmer's Market.

Dates:       Saturdays, Nov 7, 14, 21 & 28
Time:        9:00am - 1:00pm
Place:       College of San Mateo, 1700 W Hillsdale Blvd, San Mateo.
Bring:        Smiling disposition, grateful heart, outgoing enthusiasm

We will have an organizing meeting and details will be provided to those that are interested.  Please respond to joni@villageharvest.org

Record Harvest to date - 139,902 lbs.

Village Harvest volunteers - over 800 participating this year - have blown past all previous harvests, already beating our best full year of 124,627 lbs.  VH South Bay has picked over 131,000 lbs, and the new VH Davis team is approaching 9,000 lbs after only 6 months. Our food agency partners and their clients are grateful to Village Harvest volunteers for this much needed fresh fruit.  An amazing bounty at a time of such great need.

  PC Laptop Computer equipment needed

Upgrading to Windows 7.0?  New computer for the school year?  Planning on purchasing a new computer during the holidays?  Behind the scenes, VH relies on lots of computers and custom software to manage thousands of homes and volunteers, and coordinate hundreds of harvests each year.  We're in need of at least one PC laptop - an 5 year old model with Windows XP would be fine, plus more memory for one of our existing old laptops  (geek speak: PC100 SODIMM 256MB).  If you have equipment to donate, please contact craig@villageharvest.org for more information.  Donations are tax deductible.
