HARVESTING FOR THE HUNGRY - SATURDAY, APRIL 26th
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At last count, the Second Harvest Food Bank is feeding 176,000 people every month in the Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.  That's nearly twice what they have done in years past.  Come harvest for the hungry, have fun, and help feed several thousand people that wouldn't get fresh fruit otherwise.  (Not bad for a few hours work)

Date:        Saturday, April 26th
Time:        8:30am - 12:30pm
Place:       750 Curtner Avenue, Willow Glen, San Jose (near Curtner & 87), meet on the dock.
(do not go inside the building, there is a food sort going on the same day)
Partner & Recipient:     Second Harvest Food Bank
Harvest:    Assorted Citrus - Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit

Please RSVP if you're able to attend so we know how many teams and homes to plan on.

Instructions for volunteers:
- Dress with long sleeves and comfortable shoes... Long sleeves are to protect your arms from branches.  Bring gloves and hand pruners if you prefer to use them.
- Be prepared to drive or carpool from home to home... If you have a large car or truck, it's always appreciated
- Feel free to bring a bag to take home fruit for yourself. Tree ripened fruit from Santa Clara Valley... it doesn't get any better than this!

DID YOU SEE US IN THE NEWS?
--------------------------------------------------
Village Harvest and Joni Diserens have been in the Mercury New 4 times over the past month.  Did you see us?  The most recent mention was in the Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR) 2003 kick off article in the Home and Garden section.  The PAR YTD total is 42,533 lbs.  Much of these pounds were contributed through Village Harvest gleaning events or homeowners who have called VH asking for information on how to harvest and drop off their fruit.  We've got a running start on reaching the 1 Million cumulative mark in 2003!  (for techies that's 1 Glbs)

VILLAGE HARVEST TO DATE - NEW RECORDS BROKEN!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At our March weekend harvesting event with the Valley of Heart's Delight in Palo Alto, we broke another single-day event record...   3395 lbs!  Added to the other harvesting events that week, we had over a 5k lb week!  Thank you to all the volunteers who braved the rain to make this happen.

2003 HARVEST TO DATE:     25,401 lbs
