HARVESTING FOR THE HUNGRY - PALO ALTO:

We did get rained out a couple of weeks ago, so we're having a harvest this Saturday!  We have some huge citrus trees on the schedule and given the price of oranges on the market these days, every piece is so gratefully received during this cold and flu season.  Come on out and make a "ton" of difference in our community.

Rain is not projected for this weekend, but if it is raining in the morning, call 888-FRUIT-411 #0 and we'll have instructions left there.

Saturday, February 24th
8:30am - 12:30pm
Valley of Heart's Delight, a project of Conexions
1023 Corporation Way, Palo Alto

RSVP to joni@villageharvest.org if you plan on joining in.

Instructions for harvesting volunteers:

  • Dress in layers for a cool morning and warming during the day, with sun protection, and insect repellant in mind.
  • Wear comfortable, covered shoes.
  • Come prepared to carpool.  Please let us know if you have a truck or SUV to help carry fruit.
  • Bring a small box or bag to share in the harvest. Tree-ripened fruit from Santa Clara Valley... it doesn't get any better than this!
  • Children high school and over are welcome but please see our Volunteer FAQ's for more information.

NEW HARVEST TEAMS FORMING!

  • Want to help with Village Harvest in San Jose but are only available on weekends?

  • Searching for a community leadership opportunity that makes a huge difference in your spare time?

Volunteers now have two great new opportunities to harvest fresh fruit that will benefit the hungry of Santa Clara County.  A San Jose weekend harvest team and a Cupertino weekend harvest team are forming in March. Because of the excellent publicity Village Harvest received last year, plus new neighbor referrals and homeowners who have found Village Harvest on the web, we now have nearly double the number of trees available to harvest.  This means these two new harvest teams are needed to collect the additional fruit for delivery to local food service agencies.  The San Jose weekend team will harvest twice a month (second and fourth weekends), and the Cupertino weekend team will harvest once a month.  For these teams, we are especially in need of leaders and truck drivers.  If you are interested in volunteering with either new team, please contact joni@villageharvest.org and come join the harvest.
