Over 25 volunteers harvested oranges, lemons, grapefruits and limes from 12 homes in the Mountain View, Los Altos, and Sunnyvale. The fruit was then given to the Mountain View Community Services Agency for the over 400 people in their emergency assistance program. Laura Schuster, Mountain View CSA Nutrition & Health Education Programs Director, was overjoyed to receive over a ton of fruit and purchased a blender to teach the recipients how to make smoothies. Schuster said that all the fruit was enjoyed within the week. In the spirit of the Village Harvest cooperative, there are many people that made this event possible. - Robyn & Loren Shalinsky, of the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation helped to organize, drivers, trucks and volunteers. - Laura Schuster of the Mountain View Community Services Agency made it possible for to use trucks and crates, and arranged for access to the CSA on a weekend. - Mountain View Councilmember Rosemary Stasek, sponsored the connection with the Mountain View CSA, helped us harvest fruit, and supervised the weigh in. - Second Harvest Food Bank loaned and delivered the harvesting equipment. And of course all the volunteers and homeowners. Thank you to everyone, without any of you we wouldn't have had such a great start in the Mountain View Community.
