Date: Monday, January 20, 2003 10:13 AM VILLAGE HARVEST UPDATE: ---------------------------------- In this issue: - 2003 Starts with a Bang! - Help with Village Harvest Preserves - Upcoming Village Harvest Events ----------------------------------- 2003 STARTS WITH A BANG! ----------------------------------- Last weekend, we harvested our largest single-day total... 2,806 lbs! Volunteers with both Village Harvest and the Valley of Heart's Delight project partnered to save the fruit from over 19 backyard trees from going unappreciated. Both Urban Ministries and Second Harvest Food Bank were impressed with the amount of fruit harvested. Thank you to all who contributed to making it happen. Go team! We also received an unexpected mention a couple of times in the San Jose Mercury for last week's event, and over 50 homeowners called! Many did not realize their fruit would be appreciated by others in the community, and fortunately most were willing and able to harvest their own fruit and take it to a local agency. Our web site, www.villageharvest.org, has a large list of fruit drop off locations throughout Santa Clara County and beyond. HELP WITH VILLAGE HARVEST PRESERVES: ----------------------------------------------------- - Would you like to "jam" with other preservers? - Would you like to learn how to preserve in a hands on way? The preserving project that raises funds for Village Harvest is expanding! We've just been offered the use of a huge, commercial kitchen and we're piloting the kitchen with a core group of preservers in anticipation of having our ongoing preserving projects there. If you're an experienced preserver or good in the kitchen and would like to learn how to preserve, please contact joni@villageharvest.org to be added to the team!
